DAY 061 – DESIGNING DANGEROUSLY
A Meditation on Salt
Most Westerners, regardless of faith background, are probably familiar with the allusion “the salt of the earth.” I most often use this disparagingly, like when someone with an Ichthus emblem on their car is an overly aggressive driver: “Salt of the earth right there.” However, I do think it is a potent metaphor, and I think that it’s telling that we’re not told to be the sugar, stevia, splenda, or non-sugar substitute of the world. All of that’s anachronistic--I should say that there’s a point to us not being the honey of the world.
Salt uncovers depth in food. It is like taking the blinders off; what was bland and lifeless now takes on a delicious quality.
Salt is overwhelmingly present in tears.
Salt is overwhelmingly present in sweat.
Salt is in both the expansiveness of the ocean and seas, but also in the ground. Salt is prolific.
