DAY 021 – DESIGNING DANGEROUSLY
Intuition and Analysis
I imagine it’s quite apparent if you have spent time in my classes or reading these posts that I’m a fan of intuition. I do think that it is an intelligence that has been denigrated and ignored in our time. Yet as storytellers I would caution embracing intuition in a way that creates a deficit in analysis.
When true intuition is perverted to essentially become our core biases, it potentially leads us into ideological echo chambers, reflecting us back to ourselves without end. While that echo chamber is a powerful place where we have primacy, it’s pretty noisy and awfully singular.
To intuition’s bright and sweet apricot jam we need the crunchy peanut butter of analysis providing structure, glueing the storyteller and the story.
