DAY 004 – DESIGNING DANGEROUSLY
Go deeper
I just got back from an evening with a couple that Beth and I are friends with. We had beers, talked shop, explored the things that bring us joy and our insecurities. It was really nice. It’s super late so I’m going to keep this succinct.
There is a temptation, particularly one I see in students as they’re starting out, to dabble or stick a toe in rather than committing with abandon. There is a safety in being a dilettante, in playing at something. That safety is stripped away when we acknowledge that we care (perhaps deeply) about the thing we are doing. That care or earnestness is vulnerable, dangerous to us as it opens us up to criticism and the potential for failure.
