FAITH+ART MEETING 11-29-17

Hi, All

I mentioned in my last post that I was hoping to record the conversation. Well, the first week I broke a cardinal rule for a sound designer and didn’t charge the batteries in my Tascam recorder before heading out. I only caught about 10 minutes before it died. Folks seemed more comfortable without the recorder going, so I forwent recording last night completely. That being said, here is the homework for next week. We’re trying some different forms!

1. Goethe’s Three Questions about the following Walt Whitman poem:

That shadow, my likeness, that goes to and fro, seeking a livelihood, chattering, chaffering;

How often I find myself standing and looking at it where it flits;

How often I question and doubt whether that is really me;

–But in these, and among my lovers, and caroling my songs,

O I never doubt whether that is really me.

Walt Whitman from Leaves of Grass

2. Thoughts on David Ramirez’s “The Forgiven” off The Rooster EP and “Ball and Chain” off Fables*. One point of interest is that Fables has an album of commentary that goes along with it, so you can get some authorial input as well.

3. “Necessary Images” Essay by Scott Teems – I was really wowed by the discovery of the quarterly journal Image this week whose tagline is “Art, Faith, Mystery.” Makes me want to stand up and shout! And this article references Malick’s The Tree of Life, which I know some of us love!

Looking forward to next Wednesday!

Affectionately,
